the miankaleh refuge is of the maresh type (A.E.J.K.M.TS.W ) located 23 km north of the town of behshahr in the farthest resches of the southeastern side of the caspian sea , it covers an area of 68,800 hectares. Its maps cooridinates are 36*50minute eastern longitude. the area is situated 21_26 meters below sea level.

It is compried of two distinct marshland ecosystems with an approximate area of 48,000 hectares .One of these zones is serves as an invaluble habitat for aquatic and terrestrial birds.
